Maryland Drunk-Driving Defense

Solomons MD DUI Defense Lawyer Suitland Maryland Drunk-Driving Defense Attorney

Facing drunk-driving charges in Maryland? Contact DUI defense attorney Regis Johnston by e-mail or at (410) 326-5274.

Don't Plead Guilty to DUI unless You Have To

Drunk-driving charges can have serious immediate and long-term consequences. You could immediately face:

  • Suspension of your driver's license
  • Hundreds of dollars of fines
  • Driving school
  • Costs to get your license back
  • A black mark on your driving record
  • Astronomical insurance rates, or no ability to get insurance at all

Drunk-driving charges stay on your driving record for life—and they will remain on your record if you move to another state. For every additional DUI / DWI charge you have—even if your last charge was 15 years ago—you will be facing:

  • Increasingly severe fines and penalties
  • Jail time that increases with each offense
  • Longer suspension or absolute revocation of your driver's license

DUI is one of the most serious criminal charges that an average person can face. It is important to challenge every drunk-driving charge while you can. Once it is on your record, you will not be able to get it removed.

Contact our law office as soon as possible after you have been charged: (410) 326-5274. Criminal defense attorney Regis Johnston has been working in Maryland criminal courts for more than 30 years, now as a defense attorney and for years as a prosecutor. He understands how the courts view criminal cases and the evidence the prosecutor needs to have to prove a case.

The Clock Started with Your Arrest

You have a limited amount of time to save your driver's license. You must ask for a hearing with the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles within the first 10 days after your arrest. If you don't ask, your license will be suspended and you won't have any options to save it.

The administrative hearing will take place within 45 days. The criminal case will usually take place within two to six months. You could lose your license at either stage. We can defend your case in both the administrative hearing and before the criminal court.

You May Have Options. You May Have a Defense.

The first thing a criminal defense attorney will investigate are the circumstances of your stop. Did the police have probable cause to pull you over? Did they follow proper procedures? You won't know unless someone looks into it.

It may be that you are not guilty of the charges you are facing and, as your DUI defense lawyer, Regis Johnston may be able to negotiate with the prosecutor to reduce your charges or a lesser sentence. We won't know what is possible in your situation until you call and we can begin to investigate your case.

With offices in Solomons and Suitland, Maryland, we are conveniently located and available to help you fight DUI charges in both administrative hearings and criminal court. Contact our office now.
